Nokia WH-701 earphone review

I've tested this yesterday and I can say that the passive noise cancelling works great cause the buds(interchangebale) fit perfectly inside the ear (in-ear earphones). I can hardly hear what my surrounding's noise. You have two additional sets of buds. (a smaller and larger size)
It has 5 buttons, play, previous, next, call answer/end, and volume rocker.
I like the largest ear bud the most cause it fit comfortably just outside my ear canal.

The remote feels solid but i don't like the design of the cord. It looks like a tapeworm or some flat pasta (which ever you want) and it feels cheap. Its long enough for the phone to be put on a bag or pocket comfortably.

Sound is clear but not really great when it comes to bass (good but not deep enough) . You have to ramp up the volume to feel the bass.

Right ear plug is longer , so its perfect for behind-the-neck way of wearing it.

For most people this would be more than enough. But for people like me who's not really an audiophile but want's a greater quality of earphone , more wider range of clarity from treble to bass, this earphone is as good as a back up when my bluetooth headphone's battery is gone.

I'll update this post if ever I had the chance to answer or made call using the headphone.

Don't buy your phones from Nokia store greenbelt 1

My phone has 1 dead pixel on top (which is not noticeable unless you have bright colored wall paper).

If you demand for replacement, they will try to replace you phone with used phone - claiming its brand new even though the phone has no plastic cover and pre-loaded movies and and photos. I asked for other units but they said they have no stock. I said I'll just come back when the units arrived but they told me that the replacement warranty will be over by that time and in that case, they will forward my phone for repair instead. What the hell, is it my problem that they have no stock units? I come back within 1 week period and now they're telling me this *******.

So much for a nokia enthusiast to endure. Why is it have to be me T_T

*In all fairness. the guys there are very good to me in terms of how we communicate. Its just that they don't know what to do if something like what happened , happens. Gheez.

And i forgot. I carefully check every accessories and the phone for scratches or any reason that might affect the replacement process. There is virtually no scratch on my phone when I get there (remember its anodized aluminum - scratch resistant to most everyday things) and after the lady took my N8 inside their room, they now found a small scratch on the back. Hello! they've checked it before they proceed unto the room, if they found a scratch they could have told me already. I'm not saying that they did it, but its a possibility.

Anyway, stayed there for 1-2 hours. I ended up re-claiming my previous phone.

At least I'm sure its really brand new and not abused :) .. with a small scratch though. (plus a 300 pesos transportation which makes my n8 formally P 23,899.00).

This is not the fault of Nokia PH but the Nokia Greenbelt 1 store management (they're totally separate).

Got my N8 finally! Unboxing pictures of N8 retail package for philippines , freebies.

Nokia box is packaged inside a nokia n8 sling bag

I claimed my N8 yesterday at Nokia Store, Greenbelt 1, Makati. Luckily , there's no line already when I got there (around 2:30pm). The store manager said that there are many people waiting for them to open the store in the morning.

As you can see, the box is very slim in profile (to save mother earth). There's a glossy nokia N8 cover box, and inside is the original nokia n8 matte blue box (which is the box familiar to everyone).

Connect Create Entertain , A nokia event experience

DJ scarlet from presenting the short films created by the 3 popular directors from ph using nokia n8

Alphaland Southgate, 6th floor, The tent - I attended a Nokia PH event yesterday (thanks to Mark of TechPinas and Nikka of Nokia PH). That was my first time to attend a media launch so I'm kinda no idea on what's going to happen nor who will be going to that event also.

I played with the nokia N8 for several minutes only, I don't want to spoil my excitement
I'll be getting this phone in a week anyway - I tell you, the display quality is almost the same as samsung wave.
I didnt expect the screen to be that beautiful based on the video reviews i viewed online.

The event started around past 12pm so before that, I was able to talk to some Nokia folks (Mrs Corrine, mrs cause she said she's married) and they provided me information on their partnership with our local brands - they created widgets for nokia phones- such as munchpunch, fully booked, UAAP, clickthecity, Solar TV etc (Can't remember the other brands, sorry for that. I just put everything on my brain, no notes haha). Well anyway, what's exciting is that the partnership with Solar TV's watchnow brings us "How I met your mother" and "Gossip Girl" on demand , delayed telecast.

Nokia Connect Create Entertain : media launch of nokia smartphone devices [update]

Our friend over at techpinas is invited to a Nokia PH event  Connect Create Entertain on Oct 2010(according to TP , it will be held any day next week - no exact date is given on the post). The event is about the unveiling of smartphones from nokia (cannot confirm if N8 will be launched also for retail).

I'm positively thinking that this is not just about showing the Philippines that Nokia has the N8 (plus other smartphones as well), is it TP? Cause it doesn't make sense to re-launch a device already launched worldwide about a month or two ago. That's why I'm quite certain that this launch will also mark the start of availability of the device (im talking about N8) to filipino market... Hopefully.

I'm itching to get that phone.

Don't forget, Oct 22, 2010 is the date that N8 will be available for retail on UK and other European countries. If for Filipinos it will be next week, then it's quite early , too early I guess, not the usual trend.

From Techpinas

update: I'm invited to the event :) thank you so much techpinas

“N8 is a feature-packed product and from every technical specification, it’s superior”.

Turn your nokia s^3 devices into a mobile TV + your monitor with HDMI as tv as well

Symbian^3 devices will support DVB-H (Digital Video Broadband – Handset) using a type of headset (shown on the left) that plugs into nokia s^3 devices USB slots.

The headset handles call reception and volume in a similar way to other mobile headsets, so you won’t miss calls while you’re watching the game. It also features keys for changing channels and music controls for the player on your handset. There’s an app called Mobile TV available for compatible handsets. It’s either pre-installed on compatible devices or it can be downloaded from the Ovi Store.
With this, Nokia N8 will truly become a multimedia monster. Imagine now that n8 can hook up into your monitors with HDMI and turn them into a TV.

Sorry fellow Filipinos, this will not work for us yet (we don't use DVB-H signals yet) so you need to stick to your china tv phones for a while :P

N8 free at 2.4k per month for 24 months at UK [update]

Nokia n8 is pretty damn cheap on UK.

According to Nokia Direct (official Nokia Retail) the Nokia N8 is available to buy on contract with O2, Vodafone and T-Mobile. The N8 is free on a 24 month contract, at 35GBP per month.
and free HDMI cable too.

35 GBP is equivalent to 2.4k pesos (but if its in euros, it will be equivalent to 1.9k pesos) and usually, high end phone here in PH are only free at plan 2500 or more.

Lucky Britons.

update: GBP is british pounds, I interchange it with euros . Thanks again to pinaylover.
update 2: I'm getting confused caused the quotation says the cost in GBP but the screenshot shows the euro sign. But anyway , euro or GBP it is, its still damn cheap.

Anyway, hopefully this will be the same price by the time it landed here in PH (cross fingers on sept 30).

Nokia on Sept 30 , additional proof

We are now getting stronger on the belief that the n8 will launch by sept 30, 2010  after a certain Tapani Kaskinen  of nokia communcations said the following words.
N8 are expected to sell well, at least initially. It has received advance orders, inter alia, Verkkokauppa.com and Nokia's own online store. Price is defined in both 499 euros.Advance orders begin shipping 30 September, "says Tapani Kaskinen Nokia Communications.
But we can't still say if this is the same as the philippine's release date. Hello, we need a reliable source, someone from nokia philippines! Have mercy on us :P

N8 on philippines by end of september??

We got an interesting lead from Pinaylover about the possible release date of the Nokia N8 on philippines by end of september.

We're both I'm subscribed with the Nokia N8's facebook page but I didn't notice this post. Hopefully this is true as their are lot of filipinos dying to get their hands on this phone. And if ever this is real, this will be the first time that Nokia PH will not be very very late in high end product release.

Thank you very much pinaylover for the tip!

Recent interesting topics about nokia n8 , sadly release date for RP is not one of them

I'm not seeing head turning articles recently about nokia n8 and any updates related to it (where mostly composed of video and image samples) but I was able to came across some interesting topics so I consolidated them on a list:

Unique
Nokia N8 as portable HTPC / Multimedia center - N8 connected to a tv via HMDI coupled with bluetooth keyboard and mouse is the ultimate portable HTPC for everyone. ** Plus the 3.5mm audio jack accepts most multimedia speakers, so we are not limited to our TV's speaker if no HDMI sound system is present.

Games
Angry Birds - a popular and addictive game on iphone/ipod touch ported to n8.

Video Samples
Low light and outdoors

Ovi Maps
Pinch and zoom demoed

Firmware Updates
Near final (release) version final
Swype on N8 - Swype allows a user to enter a word by sliding a finger or stylus from letter to letter, lifting only between words but I don't think it will be helpful for us Filipinos since most of the time we converse through text by tagalog words or shortened  msgs /txt lingo.

No words yet on the exact release date for philippines.

Nokia X3-02 touchscreen keypad phone for the masses , features 3g, wifi and FM radio

This is somehow a late post as most tech blogs out there already gave you information about this phone, but since I want to share my opinion regarding this unique piece of technology, i'll be focusing more on comments and suggestions.

Display

2.4" seems a little small for a touch screen phone. I know the keypad is already there but larger screen size means larger icons which equates to more finger friendly navigation (by the way, i dotn have big fingers but 2.4" from my 5610xpressmusic feels small if you pretend its a touch screen). Just imagine  how much screen state is wasted just because of the thick bezel below and on the side. Utilizing those space could bring up the diagonal length to 2.6" or even 2.7".
