comScore : Philippines is top 6th country that uses twitter

Across 41 countries currently reported by comScore, Indonesia has the highest proportion of twitter user to its population with 20.8% followed by Brazil with 20.5%, then Venezuela at 19%, then Netherlands and Japan at 17.7% and 16.8% respectively, followed by Philippines at 14.8% then Mexico and Singapore at 13.4% and 13.3%.

According also to comScore, smart phones drives the adoption in US and Europe and I also believe that is the same case for Philippines with our local telcos providing unlimited access to twitter via mobile internet or SMS subscriptions. I also think that the popularity of twitter with our local celebrities also influenced a large number of people to also use twitter.

With twitter reaching a wide audience, filipinos started using twitter as a primary tool for broadcasting messages (such as weather updates, showbiz news, school class announcements, social reporting etc), and I will not wonder if someday in the future, twitter is being used as much as we would with SMS.
